THE END

Well overall, this class was fun, exciting, and full of new experiences and challenges. We all got a chance to bond even more with events like the honors camp and and rock climbing. It is kind of sad to think that its over now and how time passes so fast. I am really thankful for this program and all of it professors that are willing and able to arrange events like rock climbing and wakeboarding, not every college can you do or have these type of life experiences. Special thanks to Dr. Mathis and Leanne for making it all possible this quarter. I look at other cohorts like the one that was above us and the one below us and all I have to say is I AM THANKFUL TO BE IN THIS ONE! We are all so close and have a special relationship with each other. 2007-2009 COHORT ROCKS THANKS AGAIN!

Wakeboarding

We went wakeboarding in Ellensburg! Yes it is possible due to this private lake. I had a great time hanging out and doing something I love! Being one of the more experienced riders there I helped people learn how to wakeboard. I think overall we all had a good time and enjoyed a day on the water...but then again who wouldm't!

Climbing at Pershastin Pinnacles

Climbing at Pershastin Pinnacles was an experience of a lifetime. I am so glad that we had the opportunity to climb there with professionals. The climbs were a lot of fun. Also it was amazing that those special shoes ( the ones that made your feet like they were in hell) could hold your entire body weight on the smallest little indent or groove in the rock. It was also a great workout I burned around 1700 calories. Afterwards, we went to Leavenworth to eat at Gustoffs and relax after a long hot day.

Rockwall Day at Ellensburg H.S.

Rock wall climbing at the high school was a great experience to get us ready for Pershastin Pinnacles. We learned how to tie the correct climbing knots and correctly were the other safety equipment. We met Fred the professional climber that was going to be the main one helping us at the pinnacles.

Orienteering Day

Today, we learned how to read a compass and different types of maps. We also learned the different parts of a compass. We had to do various activities using the compass and some without a compass just reading a map of the campus trying to find different things on the campus map to answer questions as groups. Overall, I had a fun time and now know how to read a compass correctly.

Manastash Ridge Hike

Mary, Nicole, Vinny, and I went to hike Manastash Ridge on Thursday April 30, 2009 . The hike was fun but, tiring however, it was a great work out and sleep very well when I got home that evening. Hope to do Lions Rock next! Here are some pictures enjoy!

Archery

For archery we went to Doc's house to learn and practice everything from how to string a bow, to how to shoot a bow using proper technique and safety. When shooting at the targets I did pretty good since I have shot a bow long ago in boy scouts. However, I did need some practice to be able to shoot the arrow correctly. Overall I got two bulls eyes with the guidance of my classmates and Dr. Mathias. They told me little things I was doing wrong before I shot. Once those things were fixed I released at got a bulls eyes. I really enjoyed archery and want to continue to practice to become better.

Moutain Biking

For mountain biking we went to Doctor Mathias house to ride on his single track course. We started off with the basics of knowing the parts of the bike, to climbing a simple hill, to how to brake properly, to finally riding around the track. I had a lot of fun riding on his track because I riding mountain bikes before with my father and friends. I am really looking forward to the hardcore ride that Doc will take us on. Overall, I had fun but I need to start riding more to get in shape.

Frisbee

Frisbee was very fun and I got a great worked out in while doing it. We played various games such as ultimate frisbee, frisbee golf, and frisbee bowling. I think frisbee is a very good sport that takes teamwork but, also frisbee can be played by yourself with games like frisbee golf. We learned two types of throws that day aswell the cross-body back hand, and the the sidearm forehand. However, in order to throw you need to know how to catch a frisbee aswell so we also learned two types of catches the clap catch and the one handed grab. Lastly, we practiced some of the assements that are required to pass the class.

8th Grade Honors Camp

May 15-17th 8th Grade Honors Camp was a blast from the past literally! Our group did team building and trust building activities with the campers. From the sounds out it our group activity was a hit! The skits that were performed every night were great. However, the helping hands skit we did was no doubt the best skit at camp. Overall, I think the camp was great because we (pe majors) got to spend time and hangout with each other and have a good time. The food at camp was good for camp food besides the rock hard french toast! The cabins were spiders and ants but it would not be camping without bugs. Lastly, the misquotes had their Pacific Northwest breeding grounds at Lake Wenatchee.

Circus Arts

Well I have been practicing circus arts such as the diabolo, unicycling, flower sticks and juggling. I found that it is very frustrating at times but, I know the only way to get better is to practice. I haven fell times trying to unicyle but, whats the saying..."no pain, no gain" so I practice several times a week to get better. I see how this frustration and feeling on not being successfull could relate to some of my furture students and how they may feel and not having success right away. I feel that the ones that are good at certain circus arts are willing to help the ones that are not so good which shows that our cohort doesn't just care about the success of themselves but, the success of all of us. I really glad and thankful that our cohort is really understanding of each other and we show respect to each other.

Inline Skating

Today, we covered the basics on how to inline skate. Even though we looked kind of funny wearing all those pads I think all of us had a fun time inline skating together. We went over how to fall correctly, how to skate backwards and forwards, how to do different types of turns, how to stop and we even got to do a test run of the advance assessment course. I think our group really enjoyed inline skating because most of us skated as children and it kind of brings back past memories however, I must say that as a child I had way less fear of falling and no shame but, now a little more hesitant.

Rock Wall Day

Today, we learned how climb the rock wall upstairs in Nicholson Pavilion. Dr. Mathis gave us instructions on how to climb the wall. We went over how to smear, match, and how not to climb like a cow as well various other tips of how to become a better climber. I had a fun experience learning how to climb and a lot more tiring then it looks. I never knew there was a whole curriculum designed around the rock wall. I like the fact that climbing the rock wall is not based on time or others, it is strictly based on how much you want to push yourself but at the same time is fun to do with others. Overall, rock wall climbing is a very cool adventure activity that I look forward doing again.

First Day in Movement 3

The first thing I thought when looking at the syllabus for movement 3 was that we were going to learn a lot of new skills that most us weren't experienced with. I also thought it was going to be really fun to enjoy spring quarter doing lots of activities together since this is our last quarter as a cohort.
